PSYCHOTHERAPY - SHORT TERM & LONG TERM?

People from all walks of life seek therapy for many different issues. Sometimes there is a specific reason but in some cases the immediate cause of distress is less obvious. People have contacted me when struggling with emotional problems such as:

• Feeling stressed or anxious
• Coming to terms with losses such as bereavement, separation, divorce or the loss of a job
• Lacking confidence, self-esteem or having feelings of not reaching full potential
• Difficulties in making or maintaining good relationships
• Repeatedly becoming involved in destructive or unsatisfactory relationships
• Feeling depressed, sad or empty
• Lacking a sense of purpose or feeling that life is meaningless
• Having unresolved issues from the past
• Difficulties relating to sexuality
• Coming to terms with gay, lesbian or bisexual issues
• Family conflicts or problems at work

I AM NOT SURE IF THIS IS THE RIGHT KIND OF THERAPY FOR ME?

It is not uncommon to feel unsure about seeking help. In our initial consultations (usually a minimum of two) there is an opportunity for us to meet each other and explore whether therapy might be helpful to you. There is no commitment to ongoing work at this stage. If however after meeting I feel that I have something of use to offer you and you decide that you will continue, we would agree regular days and times to meet on an ongoing basis. The establishment of regular sessions is important to facilitate, and establish the therapeutic process. Most people find that regular contact provides a sense of security and continuity while they are working on what is troubling them.

CAN I CONTACT YOU DIRECTLY? OR DO I NEED TO BE REFERRED?

Clients can self refer by contacting me by telephone or by email. Referrals are also accepted by GP’s, psychiatrists and other professionals as well as by care workers in services. Email and phone contact are both confidential as they are only accessed by me in my private practice. I endeavour to respond to all enquiries promptly and discreetly.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

The therapy fee is on a sliding scale of €65 - €95. Sessions are 50 minutes. Initial consultations are set at €75. While the time can vary during the consultation stage generally I ask clients to set aside between 60 and 75 minutes. I am committed to providing intensive psychoanalytic psychotherapy in my practice and am willing to discuss and agree a fee for higher frequency work (2-3 times weekly) on an individual basis.
